Trading
Free
Free trade is a human good. We examine what markets cost and create — and make the case that open exchange, done right, is one of humanity’s most reliable paths to shared prosperity.
Unhoarding
The Gains
Free trade is a tool — like AI, it delivers what you ask of it. Ask the wrong questions, and it concentrates wealth. Ask the right ones, and it builds it broadly. Here we explore what people-centered policies look like inside an open economy.
The Long Arc
Of Exchange
From stone age obsidian to modern algorithms, human history is defined by one impulse — exchanging goods and ideas beyond your tribe. Explore the connections that have always driven civilization forward, and why severing them has never ended well.
Common Sense,
Renewed
Good trade policy doesn’t fail by accident. It fails because the system designed to produce it has been captured — by money, by tribalism, and by a media circus that profits from outrage over solutions. This is a diagnosis of how we got here, and what restoring the republic would actually require.
Confessions of an Outsourcer
Some books about globalization are written from think tanks and ivory towers. This one is written from the gritty inside — from thirty years of living in between factory floors, government offices, and cross-cultural trade negotiations on both sides of the Pacific. Timothy Brantingham is a former missionary kid who grew up in Taiwan and spent his adult career working across greater China in industrial supply chains and manufacturing. He has outsourced, offshored, nearshored, and reshored. Confessions of an Outsourcer is a firsthand reckoning with what global trade in general, and the China trade in particular, created: What it cost us, who it benefitted, who it left behind, and what an honest path forward looks like.

Let’s Talk
This site exists because the conversation matters. If something here resonated, pushed back on your thinking, or made you want to argue — good. That’s the point.
Reach out to share an insight, or contribute a piece of your own. Informed and respectful is the only house rule. Heavily contrarian views are welcome. Plain-old ‘China is the devil’ or reflexive partisan rage won’t make the cut. We don’t fear those conversations, we’re so incredibly bored by them.
The best contributions will be published here with a response. This space is for people who’ve moved past the bumper sticker and want to look at real solutions.
